Union County Library System – June 2021 Events and Programs

The Union County Library System—The Public Library for Union County, Lewisburg; Herr Memorial Library; Mifflinburg; and West End Library, Laurelton—is hosting the following events in June 2021. Learn how to use our online library catalog and explore our website. All registrants must have a computer and internet connection to view this presentation as well as provide an email address to obtain the link to join the program the day of the presentation. Register online.

Creative Writing Contest

June 1st – 18th

Put your writing skills to the test this summer with our monthly short story writing competition! Each month find a new creative writing prompt at www.unioncountylibraries.org/writingcontest or pick one up at the library. Contest closes the 3rd Friday of each month. Submit entries to the library or by email: contest@publibuc.org Prize Winners will be announced the following week.

 

Painted Feathers Take-Home Craft

Tuesday, June 8 – 10:00 am – 6:00 pm

Add some feathers to your everyday life with this DIY painted feather craft. Stop by during library hours to pick up feathers and directions. First come first serve while supplies last.

Children’s Trail Walk

Join Ms. Davena for an organized walk along the Rail Trail enjoying, observing, and discussing the birds, critters, and insects found along the path. For ages 6-12. Kids in the Garden

Mondays, starting June 14 – 10:00 am – 11:00 am

Meets every Monday until August 2 (closed Monday, July 5)

Ms. Kim and Ms. Pat show children how to plant seeds and take care of a garden. Enjoy gardening games and activities. At the end of the summer, a kids’ garden party is held that features the vegetables that are harvested. Children can bring their own watering can if they like.  Masks are optional and social distancing will be implemented. Butterfly House Setup with Live Webcam

1st Saturday of each month

Learn to crochet! Bring your own size 7, 8, or 9 crochet hook. We have a good supply of yarn available at the library. Mah Jongg

Fridays, June 4 & 18 – 1:00 – 3:00 pm

Laurelton Center Researcher’s Day

Friday, June 11 – 11:00 am – 4:00 pm

Emilie Jansma and Tony Shively, editor of the Millmont Times, are at the library with research from the Laurleton Center. People may sign up for 30-minute sessions to look up the history of the Center. Walk-ins are welcome. Register to attend by calling 570-922-4773.

 

Pokémon Go at the West End Library

June 12 (rain date June 19) – During Library Hours

The West End Library is a Pokémon Gym and is only a few feet away from an additional gym and Pokéstops. Patrons play outside and meet other fans of the game.  Pokémon Go Lures are set off periodically during the event. Masks are optional and social distancing will be implemented. The Art of Cooking with Friends

Thursday, June 24 – 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

School-age children are invited to our crochet camp that also meets on Saturday, July 10. Bulky yarn and a large size crochet hook are provided for children to begin to make a scarf. Reading with Maverick

Saturday, June 26 – 10:30 am – 12:30 pm
